Latvia’s Companies to Showcase Their Achievements at the European Defence Innovation Days in Kraków

From tomorrow, 14 May to 16 May 2025, several Latvian defence industry companies will participate in the “European Defence Innovation Days 2025” (EDID), taking place in Kraków, Poland. During the international event, representatives from Latvia will present their own innovations and technological solutions for dual-use and military applications.
EDID is organised by the European Defence Agency (EDA) in cooperation with the Polish Presidency to the Council of the European Union (EU). The aim of the event is to promote the practical contribution of innovation to the advancement of Europe’s defence sector, highlight cooperation between the civilian and military spheres, strengthen cross-border collaboration, and contribute to building a stronger and more resilient Europe. This year’s theme is “Building Tomorrow’s Capabilities Today – Bridging Defence Innovation and Fielding”. EDID is being held for the third time.
Participants for the national stand were selected by the Ministry of Defence, taking into account one of Latvia’s current defence priorities – drones and related systems, as well as priorities in research and international cooperation, including the development and implementation of joint projects. The stand and Latvia’s participation in EDID are organised and delivered by the “State Defence Corporation” Ltd. (the Corporation).
Five participants will be represented at the stand “Defence Innovations from Latvia”. They will showcase their innovations and technological solutions applicable both in civilian (everyday) contexts and for military / defence needs:
CYBER CIRCLE will present tailored cybersecurity services, solutions and expertise for companies and organisations. Its Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) provides support in responding to cyber incidents, investigates them, mitigates risks, and implements proactive defence measures against potential future attacks.
Frankenburg Technologies will introduce specialised air defence technology solutions, including a prototype missile system designed to intercept drones. The developed missile aims to address one of the most prevalent current aerial threats – unmanned aerial vehicles – by enabling mass production at significantly higher volumes and lower cost than is currently possible in the industry.
Latvijas Mobilais Telefons (LMT Defence) will present its in-house developed technologies for the defence sector, including a nationally developed command-and-control system, 5G-enabled drones, and other specialised technologies for military applications.
Riga Technical University will showcase solutions for the security sector developed within the higher education, science and research ecosystem, in close cooperation with entrepreneurs and industry representatives.
SUBmerge Baltic will present dual-use autonomous underwater drones (AUV) and remotely operated vehicle (ROV) for water security and defence applications. The company is working to make such technologies more accessible and easier to deploy in large-scale operations and missions, using advanced software algorithms and mass production methods.
EDID will bring together representatives from EU Member States and Ukraine, including institutions from the defence and military sectors, armed forces, academia and research organisations, as well as industry and business representatives.
The programme will include a defence innovation exhibition, a conference, working group sessions, creative hackathons, and other activities.
About the “State Defence Corporation”
The Corporation was established following a decision by the Government of Latvia in November 2023. Its aims are to support the long-term development of Latvia’s defence industry, manage investments in the sector, and coordinate processes related to the production of military goods. Through these activities, the Corporation contributes to strengthening the supply capabilities of the NAF, supporting the growth of Latvia’s defence industry, and ensuring the security and continuity of international supply chains. The Corporation works in sectors that require significant state involvement and are not served by the private sector.
The Corporation also fosters national and cross-border cooperation and partnerships. The company is a wholly state-owned enterprise, with the Ministry of Defence acting as its shareholder.
