State-Owned Company – “State Defence Corporation” – Registered

In order to support the long-term development of Latvia’s military industry, the state-owned company – the “State Defence Corporation”, LLC was registered on 29 November 2023.

Ingrīda Ķirse has been appointed as the interim Board Member. She previously served for many years as a member of the Management Board and Head of the Latvia’s branches of the insurance group ERGO in the Baltic States. Ms Ķirse is chairing the Council of the International School of Riga (pro bono) and has served as a Chair of the Supervisory Board of SIA “LDz CARGO”.

Ms Ķirse holds a Master’s degree in Law from the University of Latvia and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the RISEBA University of Applied Sciences.

It is planned that Ms Ķirse will serve as interim Board Member of the “State Defence Corporation” until a permanent head of the company is appointed.

As previously reported, the Cabinet of Ministers of Latvia approved the establishment of the “State Defence Corporation”, with all shares in the company to be held by the Ministry of Defence.

The Corporation will operate as a holding company and will form part of Latvia’s military industry ecosystem. Its initial share capital will amount to €500,000.

The company’s task will be to manage investments in the national defence industry and to coordinate production-related processes. The “State Defence Corporation” will also implement and promote the utilisation of funding from European Union financial instruments and funds, fostering national and cross-border cooperation. This will include investing capital in existing Latvian military manufacturing companies that require such investment to increase their production capacity.

At the same time, it will indirectly support the production and integration of military goods, their components, and technologies that are critically necessary for the defence sector.
